Solving the Headband Hangup by Alianna Telles

While working out, the most annoying thing for a girl is having your hair in your face because of a bad headband. Annoying right? The most important workout clothing item besides a good pair of shoes is definitely a good headband.

Choosing a headband depends on a couple different factors like hair length, head shape, brand preference, silicon or no silicon lining, material preference and whether you want a thick one or a thin one.

For example, I like to use a thick headband mainly because I have longer bangs, plus it keeps all my hair back and stays in place the best. Although Nike and Lululemon are a little more pricy, they work the best, never fade, you can wash them and they still look like new and the most important part – they look the best!

There are some other headbands (which Nike and Lululemon both make) that have a silicon lining around them, making it harder for them to slip off your head. There are also others that are double headbands to keep the hair out of your face and also have the silicon grip on them.

College athletes for a period of time have resorted to using “pre-wrap,” which is the foam wrap that is used before having a body part taped for example and ankle or wrist. Athletes have used it mainly because it’s affordable, they always have access to it and it comes in a bunch of different colors. Now a days little girls are using it so much that it is even being sold at stores like Claire’s and Justice and they even have a bunch of cute designs and prints like zebra or giraffe. The only down side to using it is that it pulls out the front of your hair after a period of time.

I asked a few girls around the gym to see what they preferred and many of them said the like to use the thick cotton headbands or the thin ones with the silicon lining on the inside because they stayed put through their workouts without any hassle. Much of the headband decision comes down to brand loyalty because if you’re constantly buying Nike, more than likely you will search through the Nike products to find something you really like that works.

Adidas, Under Armour, Nike, Lululemon, Goody, and Reebok are just some of the name brands that most people choose when it comes to headbands. Finding the right headband will probably cost you about $20 but eventually when you find the right one, you will be happier than ever. But if your struggling to find a headband that makes you happy either ask some friends for suggestions or stick to whichever brand you normally buy. There is nothing better than a good head band during an intense workout!!
