For this Food Friday post, I am so excited to talk to you guys about one of my new favorite health finds in Huntington. Now, what you are about to read may shock you and you may not believe me, because I honestly felt like this place was too good to be true when I first walked in, but trust me- this place is real. The Shape Shop is located on 9th Ave between 7th and 8th Street and is right next to the local Weight Watchers.
I’ve driven by it for years, and I honestly thought it was an ice cream parlor for a while (that’s where assuming gets you….). When I finally found out that it was actually a restaurant, I decided to check it out. Be prepared because this is where I am about to blow your mind. The Shape Shop franchise started in 1976 all thanks to a woman named Millie Snyder, the Area Director of Weight Watchers (which explains why the two establishments are right next to each other). All of the food offered at The Shape Shop is fresh and never processed. Everything from their snacks to their deserts are all designed for people who are watching their weight and trying to live a healthier lifestyle, how awesome is that?!
Inside The Shape Shop!
I went in around 3 and they weren’t very busy, which was good for me because the nice lady working there was able to give me the grand tour! Like I said, The Shape Shop has everything you need food wise to stay on track, all the way from snacks to desserts!
This wall is fully stocked with healthy snacks and cooking substitutions. They even have this cool thing called PB2, which is a powdered peanut butter that you can use for cooking and baking. It is only 53 calories per serving and has about 40% protein, and it tastes exactly the same as if you were to use real peanut butter (yes, it’s real)! They told me that they have people come to them all the way from Kentucky just to buy this stuff.
It’s powder! It’s peanut butter! Its powdered peanut butter!
Another great thing about The Shape Shop is that they don’t keep any secrets. You are able to look at the nutrition facts for everything you order!
Since I was eating at such a weird time that day, I wasn’t very hungry. So I just ordered their Scrambled Salad with chicken to go (but next time I’m definitely getting a Panini…they looked so good!).
Romaine Lettuce, shredded mozzarella, chicken, banana peppers, chick peas, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers, tomatoes, and mandarin oranges….YUM!
I ate this salad with Ranch Dressing. I know what you’re thinking, “Christine, you can’t eat Ranch with a salad and think you’re being healthy, you big dummy!”….well guess what, if you eat at The Shape Shop, you’re wrong! They have this amazing line of Bolthouse Yogurt Dressings. These things are awesome, and they taste just like the original dressings that they mirror. The difference is that the yogurt dressings are 45 calories a serving and 5% Total Fat. So who’s the dummy now?
So anyway, there are three Shape Shops in West Virginia, one in Charleston, one in Morgantown, and then this one, in lovely Huntington. It would be a shame for you to not check it out, I can promise you guy’s one thing- I will definitely start eating here more often, and you should too!
Have you checked out The Shape Shop? What do you like to get?
