As a Rec employee, last year I had an opportunity to go to Florida for a national NIRSA conference. NIRSA is the “National Intramural Recreation Sports Association”. (Gotta love those acronyms.) As a participant, you get to be involved in all sorts of cool things in the field of campus recreation, including taking part in some awesome workouts using some cutting edge equipment. I was pumped to be able to take my first ever TRX class in Florida at the suggestion of my dear friend and trainer, Rachael Sofie. (Of course she could have told me that eating lard would make me healthier, and I would have believed her.)
Here we are, and we are smiling, so it must have been great, right?
Do you see those straps we are holding on to? That, my friends, is a TRX. You can check out their website for some more info, and you can even purchase them to use at home if you would choose…and if you have the moolah.
According to their website, a TRX is “the original, best in class workout system that leverages gravity and your bodyweight to perform hundreds of exercises.” (Source) These nifty straps were started with the Navy Seals! Those dudes are BUFF, so you know this is the real deal!
So when the Marshall Rec Center announced that they would be offering classes in TRX this spring I rushed to sign up and also signed up my husband. Another plus – It’s being taught by Scottie Gray! If you don’t know who he is, you are missing out so watch this.
This class will challenge even the most serious athlete and tone up your core like nothing that you have ever done before. I love that sore feeling from working out, and I felt it while folding clothes the day after the class. Folding clothes, I say!
Scottie and I, getting ready to start!
Some serious demonstrating going on.
What new workouts have you tried and loved? Let us know, there may be opportunities to see your favorite class at the Rec!
