Following up Michele’s TRX blog (wasn’t it awesome? She’s got some guns!) and continuing with our little “Instructional/Group Fitness Class Mini-series”, I wanted to share another great class that we offer at the Rec, with you guys. Have you ever heard of Tabata Bootcamp? It’s an awesome circuit style workout, where you complete exercises in intervals of 40 seconds on 20 seconds off/30 seconds on 15 seconds off/20 seconds on 10 seconds off. Sound good? Well guess what? We offer it here at the Rec as an Instructional Program on Mondays and Wednesdays!
I had never taken a Tabata class before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, however I did know the instructor, Laurie, from other classes that we offer at the Rec. I love her spinning class! Before the class started I got to know some of the Tabata regulars, Aaron, Cathryn, and Jocelyn. When we were talking about what I should expect, Jocelyn put it perfectly,
“I do not like to workout…DO NOT, but I can do anything for 40 seconds. That’s why I love Tabata”.
Well put, girl! Anyway, today was cardio day in Tabata, which worked out perfectly because I normally make Wednesday a cardio day for myself. So, up to the track we went! The class consisted of runs and sprints that honored the “40/20, 30/15, 20/10” rule, while we alternated the runs with squats and ab workouts. By the end I was sweatin’ up a storm, and I can honestly say that my quads were a little tender the next day! Normally Tabata is held in Studio B and they will do all of their circuit workouts there, I just happened to visit on the cardio day (lucky me, right?) J
Starting from the left: Cathryn, Aaron, Laurie, Jocelyn, and myself. This was the night that the weather was insane last week! So due to the weather, and other people feeling “under the weather” we had a very small class, which was nice.
All in all I liked the Tabata Class, the workout was over before I knew it! Want to try Tabata? You can sign up at the front desk, but if you can’t sign up now, we will offer another set of classes starting in March!
Have you guys tried Tabata yet? What do you like about it?
