If anyone around here should be able to talk about today’s Food Friday restaurant, I think I’m more than a credible source. Being the North Carolinian that I am, I was excited to try out Carolina Barbecue on 6th Ave, to find out if it lived up to it’s name. I am a HUGE barbecue sandwich fan, if it’s on the menu, there’s an 86.7% chance that I’m getting it. However, let me be clear, I’m not a fan of every barbecue sandwich around- I’m a fan of good barbecue. For example, after being raised on tender, mouthwatering southern barbecue, I know well enough to not eat Burger King’s Barbecue sandwich expecting greatness (actually, I will probably never eat that sandwich…just saying).
The other day I went on a quick break from work and stopped by this barbecue joint, located about one mile from campus in the Prichard Building at 833 6th Ave. I ordered a small pork barbecue sandwich with a side of baked beans and baked fries, all for $6.50. I considered this a steal, when taking into account that this “small” sandwich was anything but.
This amazing bun was piled high with loads of pork barbecue that is smoked in house. The meat was packed on so much that my sandwich fell apart a few times, which is great problem to have when eating a real barbecue sandwich. By the time I was done eating I was so full I thought I was going to lapse into a serious food coma (again, another good problem). If I had ordered the large sandwich, there is no way that I would have been able to eat the whole thing.
So, if you’re looking for good, quality barbecue, Carolina Barbecue is most definitely a place to visit. Is it as good as true Carolina Barbecue? I’ll let your taste buds decide, but I will say that they have definitely earned their name.
